About the Opportunity
This role is responsible for investigating and analysing Mildura’s stormwater systems to develop effective, long‑term management solutions that protect the community and enhance the environment. You’ll support the creation and implementation of drainage strategies, standards and legislative requirements, ensuring stormwater considerations are fully integrated into new developments through the planning permit process.
The position also plays a key role in improving the urban environment by incorporating Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) principles suited to Mildura’s dry climate.
You’ll assist with project planning, undertake hydrologic and hydraulic modelling, review subdivision and construction plans, and collaborate with internal teams, external stakeholders and statutory authorities. The role includes site inspections, responding to drainage and flooding enquiries, and identifying opportunities for innovative, sustainable stormwater management across both established and developing areas.
What you will bring
Ideally the successful applicant will have the following:
- Qualifications in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, or extensive experience in stormwater planning and design supported by relevant knowledge and a lesser formal qualification.
- Strong understanding of Integrated Water Management (IWM) principles and Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) systems and their application in local development.
- Proven ability to investigate, scope, and develop practical solutions for stormwater infrastructure projects.
- Experience with development approval processes for residential and commercial projects, particularly in the context of local government stormwater requirements.
- Competence in using Australian rainfall and runoff data, along with experience reviewing stormwater engineering designs and calculations.
- Proficiency in a range of engineering software tools used for stormwater planning, modelling and design.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across internal teams, external consultants, developers and community members.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and eligibility for Engineers Australia membership
- Current Driver’s Licence and Police Check (or ability to obtain)
Salary and conditions
The position is classified within Band 6 of Council’s Current Enterprise Agreement ranging from $93,602 to $101,911 per annum plus statutory superannuation.
