The opportunity
Federation Council is on the lookout for a reliable, hands-on
Team Leader Grader to join our Engineering Services crew. If you are a grader operator who is looking to lead a small team, and take pride in our local roads, we want to hear from you!
In this role you will:
- Supervise and lead the work activities within the team or gang, for example, contactors, traffic control, watering and rolling.
- Operate Council’s Grader or other plant as directed by your supervisor and in accordance with manufacturers specifications.
- Implement Project Specific Plans (PSP’s) incorporate WH&S quality and environmental requirements.
- Carry out routine on the job running repairs on a Motor Grader and other plant as needed.
- Carry out works with the Works and Grader Teams to construct road both sealed and unsealed.
- Carry out works to a set level and finish pavements to a standard suitable for bitumen sealing.
- Carry out visual inspections of the works site and become familiar with all aspects of the works tasks and conduct risk assessments.
- Accurately complete documentation associated with plant and equipment operation including a pre-start safety checklist.
- Ensure yours and your team’s timesheets, plant sheets and daily running sheets are accurately recorded. You are required to sign off on all timesheets in your Team.
- Ensure allocated plant and staff perform to expected capacity to allow timely completion of Works Program.
- Assist in the training of other staff in the operations of your particular machine so as to improve work skills and overall levels of ability.
Essential key criteria to be addressed in applications
- Hold a Grader Operator Statement of Competency and/or demonstrated experience in this field.
- Hold a current and valid Medium Rigid (MR) Licence with experience or the ability to obtain a Heavy Combination (HC) Licence within six months.
- Hold a current and valid New South Wales Traffic Management Certificates in Traffic Controller and Implement Traffic Control Plans.
- Hold a General Construction Induction Certificate (White Card).
- Demonstrated experience in road maintenance and construction activities associated with sealed and unsealed roads including being able to set levels on job sites.
- Demonstrated knowledge of WHS practices and ability to actively encourage and promote a safe working environment.
- Demonstrated ability to Supervise works, as well being able to operate plant and be part of the team at the same time.

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment. The salary is commencing at $1,405.60 per week with progression up to $1,551.40 per week dependent upon skills and experience.
