The opportunity
Federation Council is seeking a reliable and motivated Sundry Gang Labourer to join our Engineering Services team based in Corowa. In this role, you will provide essential manual labour in the day-to-day operations of the Council Works Sundry Team. Working alongside the team, you will help ensure our infrastructure works program is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with Council’s high corporate standards.
In this role you will, but not limited to:
- Assist and support the Works Overseer in all daily activities of the Works Sundry Team to ensure service priorities are met.
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of civil infrastructure, including culverts, signs, table drains, corridor clearing, footpaths, kerb and guttering, guideposts, fencing, line marking, and roadside furniture.
- Safely and effectively operate Council plant, tools (including chainsaws), implements, and equipment in accordance with your licenses.
- Perform Traffic Control Management duties as required, ensuring temporary warning signs are correctly placed and visible prior to starting works.
- Carry out site inspections, locate public utilities, and accurately complete operational documentation such as pre-start safety checklists, timesheets, and daily running sheets.
- Actively participate in toolbox meetings, section activities, WH&S processes, and after-hours call-outs on an as-needs basis.
Essential key criteria to be addressed in applications
- Hold a current and valid Medium Rigid (MR) Licence with experience in civil construction activities associated with signs, culverts, potholes, roadside furniture, fencing and footpaths, and the construction of kerbs and gutters.
- Hold a Construction Induction Certificate (White Card).
- Manage time, set priorities as well as plan and organise work to achieve set objectives in the most efficient way possible within the available resources and timeframe.
- Demonstrated ability to show initiative in solving problems, improving methods and productivity and ability to seek guidance where required.
- Good verbal communications skills and the capacity to deal with employees and the public effectively and contributing to a positive and vibrant workplace culture.
- A demonstrated commitment to Workplace Health & Safety (WH&S) in a high-risk work environment.

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment. The salary is commencing at $30.80 per hour with progression up to $33.99 per hour dependent upon skills and experience.
