The opportunity
Federation Council is on the lookout for a reliable, hands-on
Team Leader Grader to join our Engineering Services crew. If you are an experienced grader operator who is ready to lead a small, dedicated team and takes genuine pride in maintaining and constructing high-quality local roads, we want to hear from you!
In this role you will:
As a crucial part of our field operations, you will balance operating heavy machinery with day-to-day team leadership. Your main responsibilities will include:
- Supervise and coordinate daily work activities for your team, including contractors, traffic control, watering, and rolling.
- Operate Council’s Grader and other plant to manufacturer specifications. You will construct both sealed and unsealed roads, setting levels and finishing pavements to a high standard ready for bitumen sealing.
- Implement Project Specific Plans (PSPs) that cover WH&S, quality, and environmental requirements. You'll conduct site inspections, run risk assessments, and complete pre-start safety checklists.
- Carry out routine, on-the-job running repairs on the grader and other plant. Ensure your crew’s timesheets, plant sheets, and daily logs are accurate, providing final sign-offs.
- Manage staff and plant capacity to ensure the Works Program is completed on time, while assisting in training other staff to upgrade their operating skills.
Essential key criteria to be addressed in applications
- A Grader Operator Statement of Competency and/or extensive, demonstrated experience in the field.
- A current Medium Rigid (MR) Licence, with the experience or ability to upgrade to a Heavy Combination (HC) Licence within six months.
- Current NSW Traffic Management Certificates (Traffic Controller and Implement Traffic Control Plans) alongside a standard White Card.
- Demonstrated experience in road maintenance and construction (sealed and unsealed), including the ability to accurately set levels on-site.
- Strong knowledge of WHS practices and a proven ability to promote a proactive safety culture.
- A proven ability to effectively supervise civil works while simultaneously operating plant and working collaboratively as part of the team.

The appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award and Council’s policies and conditions of employment. The salary is commencing at $38.45 per hour with progression up to $42.45 per hour dependent upon skills and experience.
