We are looking for like-minded individuals to join our fun and dynamic team! We are seeking an experienced and professional Natural Areas Specialist with a passion for environmental conservation, land management and community engagement.
In this role you will have the following accountabilities:
- Coordinate the protection, management and maintenance of natural assets across Council-owned and vested reserves and Public Open Space (POS).
- Lead and support the management of natural areas including reserves, rural verges and bridle trails in collaboration with the Parks team.
- Provide strategic advice on the development and management of the Shire's trails network and natural area systems.
- Contribute to reserve management planning, including preparation and implementation of management plans and development strategies.
- Coordinate verge management programs, including the 'Free Verge Plants' and 'Herbicide' programs.
- Develop and implement programs to control environmental and biosecurity risks.
- Provide environmental advice on planning applications, developments and infrastructure works to protect natural assets.
- Liaise with community groups, Landcare organisations and stakeholders to support conservation initiatives and Friends Groups.
- Manage contractors, consultants, grants and budgets relating to natural area projects.
- Represent the Shire on relevant external committees and working groups.
Our preferred candidate will be able to demonstrate the following experiences and skillset:
- Tertiary qualifications or extensive experience in environmental science, natural resource management or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, roadside conservation and public open space management.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse land management issues and develop practical solutions.
- Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, community groups and stakeholders.
- Highly developed communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Strong financial management, budgeting and project coordination experience.
- Ability to research, assess and report on environmental and development proposals.
- High level organisational skills with a strong customer service focus.
- Current 'C' Class driver's licence.
Desirable:
- Local government experience
- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field
- Experience with Technology One or similar systems
- Knowledge of statutory and regulatory frameworks

We will negotiate a great salary with you in the range of $81,000 - $90,400 per annum depending on the experience you bring to the role.
