We are looking for like-minded individuals to join our fun and dynamic team! We are seeking an experienced and professional media and advocacy specialist.
In this role you will have the following accountabilities:
- Lead the development and ongoing refinement of the Shire's Advocacy Strategy, with a strong focus on major infrastructure priorities supporting one of Western Australia's fastest-growing local governments and communities.
- Work closely with the Shire Executive to coordinate and track advocacy activity at State and Federal levels, including maintaining records of key meetings, outcoms and follow-up actions.
- Develop and deliver targeted communications plans for major advocacy initiatives, including government engagement, funding submission and public positioning.
- Research, write and produce high-quality advocacy content, including media releases, opinion pieces, briefing notes, reports and digital communications, taillored to a diverse and growing community.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with local, state and national media to proactively promote advocacy outcomes, major infrastrucutre priorities and initiatives.
Our preferred candidate will be able to demonstrate the following experiences and skillset:
- Tertiary qualification in (Communications or Marketing)
- Demonstrated experience in advocacy, communications, or a similar role, preferably within a government or not-for-profit sector.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing strategic communication and media relations plans.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages for diverse audiences.
- Proven experience in media relations including an understanding of the local, national and state landscape, relationship management and ability to manage media engagements for senior officials or executives.
