The opportunity
You'll be part of a welcoming, collaborative, community‑focused team dedicated to creating an informed, engaged and connected Wollongong. Working alongside passionate library professionals, you'll contribute to delivering modern, inclusive and dynamic services across our seven library locations. Every day, you'll support a diverse community of readers, learners, families, young people and visitors through high‑quality programs, technology support and customer service.
You'll be working with team leaders, library technicians, program co-ordinators and customer service staff to help bring our library strategy to life. Each role places you at the centre, your ideas, your service, your commitment to community and customer experience.
Opportunities available:
- Library Services Officer - Home Library Service, permanent, part-time (17 hours @ Wollongong City Library including every Saturday)
- Library Services Officer, permanent, part-time (18 hours @ Wollongong City Library including every Saturday)
- Term contract, part-time, from 13 June 2026 until 11 June 2027 - possibility of extension or permanency (15 hours per week @ Warrawong)
- (2 roles) Term contract, full-time, from Aug 2026 until Aug 2027 - possibility of extension or permanency (35 hours per week @ Corrimal Library)
You'll be physically capable of performing hands‑on tasks, able to work weekends (including rotating Saturday shifts) or evenings as required and you are able to work across any of our library locations. Salary $42.62/hr, plus superannuation (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications)
Under Part 2, Section 6 of the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012, this position has been designated as requiring a paid Working With Children Check.
How you'll make a difference
In this role, your work will have real impact in people's daily lives. You will:
- Deliver high‑quality customer service to a diverse community base, supporting enquiries, membership and access to library services
- Assist community members in navigating technology, digital services, online resources and emerging tech tools
- Contribute to designing, preparing, and delivering programs and events, including children's activities, youth programs, outreach activities and community engagement sessions
- Support core library operations including shelving, collection presentation, stock movement and basic cataloguing tasks
- Provide circulation support such as loans, returns, troubleshooting accounts, and cash handling/reconciliation
- Work confidently across multiple branches, adapting to new environments, different teams and varying community needs
- Ensure a safe, inclusive and child‑safe environment by applying WHS and child protection principles in your day‑to‑day work
- Play an active role in maintaining a positive workplace culture grounded in respect, integrity, sustainability, courage and teamwork
Each day will look a little different, some days you'll be on the floor supporting customers, other days helping run programs, working behind the scenes or assisting people with digital literacy. About you
You are someone who takes pride in making a meaningful difference every day. You enjoy connecting with people, solving problems, and helping others learn. You bring:
- A relevant diploma or higher qualification (for example: Library & Information Service, Library Technician, Education, early childhood, youth work or community services)
- Experience in a library or customer‑facing information environment, with strong foundations in library service delivery
- Communication skills, you're confident, clear and community‑focused
- Teamwork and relationship‑building skills, with a positive, reliable and collaborative approach that strengthens the culture around you
- Attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in customer support, circulation tasks, and technology
- IT literacy, with the capacity to learn new systems and help customers navigate emerging technologies
- The ability to prioritise and work autonomously, especially during evening or weekend shifts where staff may work independently
- A genuine commitment to creating safe, inclusive environments for children, young people and community members
