About The Role..
This is a rewarding opportunity to join our collaborative LifeWorks team and help people rediscover the power of recreation, connection and community. As a
Recreational Therapist, you will design and deliver high-quality, client-centred programs that support individuals to engage in meaningful leisure activities that enhance wellbeing, confidence and independence.
LifeWorks Ryde is an innovative and rapidly growing multidisciplinary service, offering therapy both onsite and in the community. You’ll also have the opportunity to work in our state-of-the-art Advanced Technology Centre, delivering cutting-edge rehabilitation using the latest robotic and assistive technologies.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Conduct recreational therapy assessments and deliver individual and group interventions that support clients to participate in meaningful leisure and community activities.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop integrated, goal-focused therapy programs tailored to each client’s needs.
- Provide recreation and leisure counselling, education and support to clients and their families to promote independence and safe participation.
- Liaise with external providers and community services (e.g. NDIS, icare and equipment providers) to support access to appropriate resources and assistive equipment.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, reports and outcome measures in line with organisational and professional guidelines.
- Facilitate community-based recreational programs and support initiatives that encourage social participation, confidence and wellbeing.
About You..
We seek a self-motivated and friendly individual with:
Essential Criteria
- Bachelor of Health Science or Applied Science in Leisure and Health/Therapeutic Recreation or Diversional Therapy.
- Current membership with Australian Recreational Therapy Association.
- Experience working with people with physical, cognitive and/or developmental disabilities.
- Skills in client assessment, evaluation and adaptation of recreation and leisure activities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated skills in organisation and planning person centred activities.
- Experience working in a team framework and/or multi-disciplinary team.
- Computer literacy including demonstrated competence using Microsoft Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Current C unrestricted driver’s licence, good driving record and has access to a car (Staff may be required to travel to visits in their own vehicle. Mileage/ petrol costs can be claimed).
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience working with clients of iCare (Lifetime Care and Workers Care) and NDIS.
- Experience in providing education to clients, families, carers and support workers in the purpose and implementation of a recreational therapy plan.
- Experience utilising Clinical Management Software.
- Experience in developing and promoting recreation programs.
