The Role
As the Senior Governance & Risk Officer, you will play a key role in strengthening Council’s governance and risk practices. You will provide expert advice to ensure our Enterprise Risk Management framework is effective, practical, and embedded across the organisation.
You will lead key programs such as Business Continuity Planning, ensuring they are well designed, tested, and aligned with Council’s broader risk framework. You will work across the organisation to promote a strong risk culture and support teams to manage risk with confidence.
You will support the Head of Corporate Governance and Risk to deliver and maintain a robust Corporate Governance Framework. This includes coordinating key processes, monitoring compliance, and promoting Council’s Fraud and Corruption Control Framework.
You will manage key governance registers and coordinate the Annual Disclosure of Interest process, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
This is a varied and influential role that requires sound judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to build strong relationships across the organisation.
Key Accountabilities:
- Ensure Council meets statutory requirements and reporting obligations, including coordination of the Office of Local Government compliance calendar
- Manage Council’s Enterprise Risk Management and Business Continuity frameworks, including training and guidance for staff
- Identify and monitor operational and strategic risks, review controls, and lead investigations into non-compliance
- Provide expert advice and prepare reports and briefings for the Executive and Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee
- Interpret and apply legislation to ensure ongoing compliance across policies and practices
- Maintain governance registers and report on trends, emerging risks, and areas of concern
- Oversee the Conflict of Interest Register, escalate issues, analyse risks and non-compliance, and promote staff compliance obligations.
What We Are Looking For
You are a skilled governance and risk professional with a strong understanding of legislative and compliance requirements. You take a practical, outcomes-focused approach and can translate complex frameworks into clear, workable solutions.
You will have:
- Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in risk management, law, governance, or public or business administration
- Experience interpreting and applying legislation, including the ICAC Act, GIPA Act, PPIP Act, PID Act, and relevant local government legislation
- Strong knowledge of governance frameworks, with a focus on continuous improvement
- Proven ability to lead, prioritise and support others to deliver outcomes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder engagement
- Strong time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
- Well-developed interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to build effective relationships
- Experience mentoring or supporting the development of junior staff
What We Offer
- Salary from $105,288.40 to 121,992.35 per annum, plus 12% superannuation
