Trainee Building Surveyor
Temporary full-time position up to 4 years.
35 hours a week + VDO every 19-days
Trainee Salary is as per the Local Government (State) Award (Trainee Wages)

What you'll do
As our Trainee Building Surveyor, you will gain practical experience across a broad range of certification, compliance and regulatory functions, supporting your progression toward registration as a Building Surveyor – Restricted (Class 1 and 10 Buildings).
Working under the guidance of registered certifiers and senior staff, you will assist with the assessment, administration and inspection of building and regulatory matters in accordance with the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Local Government Act 1993, and associated legislation.
Your training will provide exposure to:
- Building certification and development approvals
- Section 68 approvals
- Building inspections and compliance activities
- Swimming pool barrier compliance
- Local government regulatory services
- Customer and stakeholder engagement

What you'll need (essential Criteria)
- Completion of Higher School Certificate (HSC) or equivalent.
- Willingness to undertake and successfully complete qualifications recognised under the Building and Development Certifiers Regulation 2020 to support progression toward registration as a Building Surveyor — Restricted (Class 1 and 10 Buildings).
- Demonstrated interest in building surveying, certification, construction and local government regulatory services.
- Demonstrated computer skills including Microsoft Office applications and electronic management systems.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accuracy.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Proven interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate to a wide range of audiences.
- Understanding of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Building and Development Certifiers Act 2018, Local Government Act 1993 and associated legislation.
- Current NSW Driver Licence (Class C).
Desirable Criteria
- Experience or exposure within local government, construction, certification, plumbing, drainage or regulatory environments.
- Ability to interpret and apply legislation, standards, plans and technical documentation.
