Lake Macquarie City Council is one of the largest employers of training positions in the Hunter region. The Trainee Customer Service Officer is part of Council’s Early Careers program – designed to provide you with on-the-job experience, mentoring and support from highly skilled professionals, all while you complete a formal qualification. ABOUT THE JOB
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Customer Service team while gaining valuable insight into the wide range of services Lake Mac provides to the community. In this role, you will collaborate with a diverse group of professionals who are passionate about serving the community, working together to achieve common goals and make a positive impact.
As part of our Customer Service team, you will gain hands-on experience in a busy call centre environment, handling around 60 calls per day while building valuable communication, problem-solving and interpersonal skills. You will support customers with a range of enquiries requests and applications in relation to the services that we provide, work closely with internal teams, and contribute to a positive team culture by sharing knowledge and supporting your colleagues.
At the completion of the traineeship, there may be an opportunity to continue your employment for a further 12 months as a qualified Customer Service Officer
The position is located at Council’s Administration Building, currently located inWallsend NSW. The position may involve some travel to office locations within Lake Macquarie. You will be rostered to work between8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday– No weekend work!
In this role, we will support you to:
- Ensure customer information, documentation and requests are recorded accurately and in accordance with the required standards and policies.
- Build confidence using a variety of systems by accurately recording customer information and requests in line with Council standards and processes.
- Develop strong communication skills to successfully handle customer interactions.
- Be proactive as a customer centric champion and provide suggestions for process improvement that will also contribute to a positive team environment.

WHAT WE OFFER
- Earn while you learn, with a weekly wage of$731.78 to $855.38, supporting you as you complete your qualification.

We are looking for enthusiastic, confident and motivated individuals to join our team. Ideally, you will be able to demonstrate:
- A genuine interest in customer service. While previous experience is desirable, it is not essential.
- Be honest, punctual and reliable with a commitment to completing the 12-month training course requirements.
- The ability to work well in a team and interact positively with both internal and external customers.
- Strong attention to detail and good organisational skills.
- Strong computer skills, including experience using Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- The ability to follow instructions and processes, while also asking questions and contributing ideas for improvement.
