About the position:
The Youth Development Officer is responsible for delivering a range of youth-focused programs and initiatives that foster positive engagement and strengthen community connection for young people across Greater Geraldton. The role plans and delivers youth diversionary programs during school holidays and outside school hours, while supporting, the day-to-day operation of the Geraldton Youth Centre to ensure it remains a safe, inclusive and vibrant space for young people and service providers. The role also involves collaborating with stakeholders to advocate for youth-specific services and contribute to local crime prevention strategies aimed at reducing antisocial behavior among young people.
This is a part-time permanent role working up to 46 hours per fortnight.
Key accountabilities:
- Deliver a diverse range of engaging youth-focused programs that encourage positive behaviours and provide meaningful alternatives to antisocial behaviour.
- Monitor program participation and activities delivered, track progress against project goals and prepare reports for funding bodies and stakeholders.
- Manage allocated budgets responsibly, ensuring financial activities align with approved plans and deliver value for money.
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Geraldton Youth Centre.

Position requirements:
The City is looking for a motivated and community-focused candidate with demonstrated experience developing and delivering youth-focused programs and initiatives. The ideal candidate will have strong organisational skills, sound stakeholder engagement experience and the ability to support a safe, inclusive and vibrant space for young people. Experience in monitoring and evaluating project outcomes, collecting and analysing participation data, preparing outcome-focused reports and supporting grant applications and acquittals will be highly regarded.
Applicants should hold, or be willing to obtain where required, relevant qualifications and checks including a qualification in Youth Work, Social Work, Community Development, Education or Physical Education; Certificate IV in Leadership and Management; current First Aid Certificate; C class driver’s licence; LR class driver’s licence with F endorsement; Working with Children Check; and National Police Clearance.
Completion of a pre-employment medical including alcohol and other substances testing is required of all positions at the City.
Remuneration and benefits:
This position has a salary starting from $89,127 per annum pro rata or $45.1046 per hour, offered dependent on knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.
