About the role:
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Treatment Planning Engineer to provide expert technical and strategic planning advice to support the long-term capacity and sustainability of Unitywater’s sewerage treatment plants.
In this role, you’ll work across complex treatment planning activities, using data, technical analysis and evidence-based advice to identify future capacity requirements and support investment decisions. You’ll help shape solutions that are prudent, efficient and aligned with regulatory requirements, while supporting the delivery of infrastructure outcomes for our growing communities.
You’ll work closely with teams across Unitywater, as well as external stakeholders and regulatory agencies, to progress treatment plant upgrade projects and provide technical input into planning approvals and regulatory requirements.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you will:
- Provide expert technical advice and direction across Treatment Services Planning activities
- Develop data, analysis and technical information to support investment decisions and Solution Requirements
- Commission and manage specialist studies to support long-term strategic treatment planning
- Support the planning and development of sewage treatment plant upgrades, including input into statutory development applications
- Work with Approvals and Regulatory Planning to support regulatory approvals and engagement with relevant agencies
- Provide technical advice, reports and responses to regulators and internal stakeholders
- Develop and maintain strong relationships across Unitywater and with external stakeholders
- Support planning budgets and reporting requirements
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring and support to engineering peers and other teams across the organisation
- Identify opportunities to improve planning processes, systems and ways of working

You’ll bring significant experience in water, wastewater or another asset-intensive industry, with a strong understanding of strategic infrastructure planning and the complexities involved in planning for future network capacity.
You’ll have:
- Tertiary qualifications in engineering, strategic planning or a related discipline
- Significant experience in the water and sewerage industry or a similar asset-intensive environment
- Strong experience in strategic infrastructure planning, ideally within a large utility or complex organisation
- The ability to analyse complex data and information and translate it into clear, evidence-based recommendations
- Strong project and contract management skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex planning activities
- Highly developed report writing, communication, consultancy and negotiation skills
- The ability to build strong relationships and effectively engage with internal stakeholders, external parties and regulatory agencies
- A demonstrated commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes for customers and communities
- A C Class Drivers Licence
