We are seeking an experienced and professional Assistant Accountant with a passion for the community.
About the Role!
As the Assistant Financial Accountant, you'll be the go-to support for both the Financial Accountant and Senior Accountant, playing a hands-on role across the financial services team. Some of your key functions will include:
- Assist with monthly financial reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, and audit preparation.
- Ensure accurate recording of financial transactions, including the review and approval of accounts payable and receivable invoices, and the analysis of cost centre reports.
- Maintain the integrity of the asset register/book ensuring timely and accurate recording and reporting of transactions, including additions, depreciation and disposals.
- Preparation of the Shire's Fringe Benefit Tax and Business Activity Statement returns.
- Support grant accounting and provide financial information to departments and project managers.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure compliance and effective financial operations.

You are degree-qualified (or near completion) in accounting, finance, or a related discipline, and you have a keen eye for detail with a genuine interest in local government finance. You're eager to learn, adaptable, and thrive when managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Your collaborative spirit makes you a valued team player, and you communicate clearly and confidently with colleagues and stakeholders. You take pride in your accuracy and reliability, and you're ready to contribute positively to our Shire as we build a stronger community together.
