About the position:
The City has a unique and exciting opportunity available for a motivated Strategic Planning Officer to join the City Growth branch and contribute to shaping the City of Greater Geraldton as a connected, sustainable and thriving place to live.
This role offers the opportunity to work across a diverse planning landscape, from urban to rural, applying adaptive, solutions-focused thinking to emerging strategic planning challenges.
Applications are sought from suitably qualified and experienced planners, however the City will also consider applications from candidates with lesser or alternate qualifications and experience who are interested in progressing their career in the planning field.
This is a permanent full-time opportunity, however candidates seeking part-time employment are encouraged to apply.
Key accountabilities:
• Apply initiative, creativity and solutions-oriented thinking to working collaboratively with the Coordinator Strategic Planning on the implementation and administration of the activities of the strategic planning area.
• Engage in advocacy with State Government and other agencies in the development of studies, plans and policies for the Greater Geraldton region.
• Build and maintain positive relationships to effectively liaise with internal and external customers and stakeholders and deliver a high standard of consultant and project management.
• Work collaboratively as part of the Strategic Planning team to support the delivery and implementation of the City’s strategic planning program.
• Contribute to the preparation of strategic studies, plans and policies for the Greater Geraldton region through research, analysis, advocacy and stakeholder collaboration.
• Plan and manage strategic planning projects, including the engagement and coordination of external consultants, ensuring delivery aligns with agreed scope, timeframes and budgets.
• Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support high-quality, well-informed planning outcomes.

Position requirements:
The ideal candidate will hold a degree in Town Planning or equivalent qualification recognised by the Planning Institute of Australia, with experience in complex strategic planning projects and comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation, regulation and requirements within Western Australia. Other relevant qualifications and experience will be considered.
All candidates must have experience in project management including budget monitoring and managing key stakeholder relationships. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, supported by a responsive and pragmatic approach to resolving planning challenges, are essential within this diverse environment.
Completion of a pre-employment medical including alcohol and other substances testing is required of all positions at the City.
Remuneration and benefits:
A salary ranging from $109,094 per annum or $55.20 per hour to $114,135 per annum or $57.76 per hour will be offered dependent on knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.
