Permanent, Full Time 35 hours, 5 days/week $88,502 to $96,976 Location: Scott Street, Liverpool
JOB DESCRIPTION
Support the organisation's geospatial needs by analysing and managing spatial data, using GIS tools to deliver insights that inform decision-making. This role involves conducting detailed spatial analysis, producing reports and visualisations, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project requirements. You will contribute to the development and implementation of geospatial solutions, workflows, and methodologies, while providing technical expertise. Staying current with industry trends and technologies, you'll help enhance geospatial capabilities and drive continuous improvement in analytical approaches.
The Geospatial Officer supports Council's spatial operations by:
- Performing the cadastral subdivision workflow on a daily basis.
- Assist on service request tickets received by the team, including but not limited to Geocortex layer updates, data extracts, map creations and map updates.
- Managing and maintaining geospatial data and files, including field and office data entry in a versioned environment
- Providing mapping advice and responding to GIS service requests
- Supporting staff with GIS training, data processing assistance, and use of geospatial web services
- Contributing to ongoing improvements in GIS workflows and documentation
Key responsibilities include:
- Deliver a high-quality, professional customer experience to all stakeholders
- Collect, manage and maintain GIS data across field and office environments
- Provide expert advice and support on mapping queries and project requirements
- Ensure accuracy and quality through review of GIS data, maps, and outputs
- Develop and automate processes using Python scripting and REST APIs
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Extract, analyse and manipulate data from corporate systems to deliver reliable insights
- Produce high-quality spatial analysis, maps and reports for stakeholders
- Maintain documentation to ISO standards and provide technical GIS support
- Support training and capability uplift in GIS systems and tools
- Conduct research and contribute to monitoring and evaluation initiatives
ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- ArcGIS experience preferred (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise)
- Willingness to learn and experience IT Agile framework workflows
- Comfortable working through a steep learning curve in Council's GIS environment
- Strong customer service skills and ability to work collaboratively in a friendly, supportive and driven team
- Motivation to expand skills in spatial analysis, scripting (e.g., Python), and enterprise geodatabases, as these are core parts of the role
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in GIS, IT or a related field, or equivalent experience (minimum 2 years)
- Experience with enterprise-level GIS applications and spatial analysis/mapping
- Programming experience, ideally within a GIS environment
- Strong knowledge of enterprise geodatabases and spatial data management
- Ability to apply spatial analysis techniques to develop practical, innovative solutions
- Understanding of relevant legislation, guidelines, and cadastral data (e.g. NSW land and addressing standards)
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Experience in spatial data modelling, analysis, maintenance, and interpretation (including aerial imagery)
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to advise stakeholders on data quality and collection
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Knowledge of WHS, EEO, and ethical and inclusive work practices
The salary (within the above-mentioned range) will be dependent upon the relevant skills, experience, and competencies of the successful applicant.
