The salary range for this opportunity starts at $71,820 (Grade D, Step 1) plus 12% super.

The role
As a Relief Operator – Street Cleaning Night Shift, you’ll support the team to collect and transport waste from designated litter bins and public areas to disposal facilities during night shift.
You’ll operate vehicles, plant and equipment safely and efficiently, assist with street cleaning activities and respond to operational needs across the city.

What you’ll be doing
- Collecting and transporting waste from litter bins and public areas during night shift
- Operating plant and equipment, including rear load garbage compactors and hand-held equipment
- Removing dumped rubbish and responding to emergency requests
- Completing tasks and schedules within required timeframes and standards
- Inspecting cleaned areas and addressing any deficiencies
- Documenting and reporting large debris, vandalism, hazardous waste or other operational issues
- Performing routine maintenance on cleaning equipment
- Assisting with clean-up before, during and after public events
- Engaging respectfully with residents and visitors when required
- Working safely, independently and as part of a night shift team
About you
You’re reliable, adaptable and take pride in practical work. You understand the importance of safety, can work both independently and as part of a team, and are comfortable working night shift while responding to changing operational priorities.
You’ll need:
- A Class HR Driver’s Licence
- Availability and suitability to work night shift
- Experience operating plant or equipment associated with waste or street cleaning activities
- Strong safety awareness, including use of PPE and safe handling of chemicals
- Ability to follow set schedules and complete tasks within designated timeframes
- Good attention to detail
- Ability to respond promptly to emergency cleaning requests
- Ability to document and report operational issues
- Experience in street cleaning operations, rear load garbage compaction units or road brooms, highly regarded
