About the Role
Sydney Water is seeking a highly capable and motivated Emergency Management Specialist to join our Protective Security and Emergency Management team. This role is pivotal in ensuring our organisation’s preparedness and resilience in the face of emergencies, disruptions, and crises. You will play a key role in safeguarding our critical infrastructure and supporting the continuity of essential water and wastewater services to the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply and, ideally, deliver training in the AiiMS emergency management methodology.
- Operate within Sydney Water’s enterprise emergency management framework, integrating strategic crisis management, business continuity, and resilience principles.
- Act as the primary liaison for external emergency stakeholders including State Emergency Services, REMC, LEMC, and Bushfire Committees.
- Coordinate and facilitate emergency exercise, debriefs, and lessons learned processes.
- Manage a comprehensive emergency training and exercise programme, including documentation, business case development, and stakeholder engagement.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in internal incident management tools and systems.
- Oversee the operation of the physical Emergency Control Centre and support hybrid/virtual emergency response models.
- Participate in an on-call roster (approximately one week per month).
- Continuously improve emergency guidelines, playbooks, and documentation in alignment with the operational resilience framework.
- Provide evidence-based insights and contribute to governance reporting within the Protective Security and Emergency Management team.
Skills and Experience
- A strong understanding of the AiiMS emergency approach (training delivery experience highly regarded).
- Experience working within enterprise-level emergency management frameworks.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, both internal and external.
- Proven ability to manage complex training programmes and facilitate high-quality emergency exercises.
- Familiarity with critical infrastructure obligations under the SOCI Act.
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to thrive in a small, high-performing team.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills.
