About the role:
Council is seeking a hands-on Team Leader to work within the team and lead by doing. Reporting to the Manager Urban Services, you will coordinate and manage staff and resources engaged in infrastructure maintenance activities to ensure the safe, efficient and effective execution of works and maintain accurate documentation of works using the Council's corporate systems.
This role promotes team collaboration and compliance with workplace health and safety requirements; acts as a liaison between crew members and supervisors; reports issues; and fosters a culture of continuous improvement.
Position accountabilities include:
- Leading infrastructure repairs and maintenance
- Ensuring team and work compliance with safety regulations and standards and Safe Work Method Statements
- Overseeing site risk assessments; monitoring and reporting hazards, incidents or near misses; ensuring any corrective actions are taken
- Leading, supporting and guiding team members to achieve operational goals efficiently and safely
- Fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages open communication and mutual respect
- Addressing and promptly reporting to the manager any workplace issues or conflicts
- Planning daily workflows, making on-site decisions, and managing materials for efficiency and safety
- Documenting and reporting completed work
- Operating vehicles and plant (including HR/MR licence machinery), tools, equipment, and IT devices like iPads
- Identifying and sharing process improvement opportunities
- Participating in learning and development activities to enhance personal and team capability
Selection Criteria:
- Excellent team leadership skills
- Effective planning skills and the ability to organise allocation of the work program to the team
- Experience in water and sewerage operations
- Availability for on-call after-work commitments
- Construction Induction WHS card
- MR licence
