About the role
Council is seeking a motivated and skilled Governance Support (Information Access) Officer to join our Governance team.
In this role you will be responsible for managing information access requests under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act) and other relevant legislation and will provide high-level customer service, support governance processes, and ensure accurate record keeping within a busy office environment.
Your work will contribute directly to transparency and the efficient delivery of Council services.
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Deliver exceptional customer service by assisting with formal and informal information access requests
- Efficiently process applications in line with Council policies and legislative requirements
- Provide advice and support to Council staff and the public on GIPA and governance matters.
- Assist in preparing, administering, and publishing Council and committee business papers, minutes, and associated documents
- Provide minute-taking services at Council and committee meetings when required
- Prepare reports and administrative correspondence
- Provide training to staff on information access and administrative procedures
Required Qualifications, skills & experience:
- Completed or currently undertaking tertiary qualifications in business administration, government, law, or related fields OR minimum 2 years’ relevant experience
- Experience processing applications under the GIPA Act or related legislation
- Experience applying records management principles in a busy office environment with competing priorities
- Strong written communication skills with ability to prepare clear, concise correspondence and reports
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills for liaising with internal teams and the public
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality
- Analytical skills to interpret legislation, identify relevant information, and resolve complex inquiries
- Understanding of local government operations, policy, and legislation is desirable but not essential
