About the Role
This position would Ideally suit a semi-retired Plumber or one with an interest in exploring the regulatory and compliance aspects of the plumbing industry. While the position does not involve hands-on Plumbing work, a solid understanding of Plumbing practices is essential.
The Trade Waste Inspector is responsible for inspecting, assessing, and investigating liquid trade waste discharges and backflow prevention installation requirements to protect public health and safety, the environment and Council's water/wastewater infrastructure and assets. Reporting directly to the Lead - Regulatory & Trade Waste, the main focus of this position is to:
- Ensure high level of environmental and operational compliance.
- Inspect and assess new and existing premises with the aim of issuing approvals for trade waste generators.
- Inspect, assess, and approve installation of backflow prevention devices for compliance with the Plumbing Code of Australia (PCA), relevant Australian Standards and Council Policies.
- Inspect, assess, and approve installations of liquid trade waste pre-treatment facilities for compliance with relevant legislation, Australian Standards and Council Policies.
- Undertake field monitoring programs for trade waste generators ensuring compliance with the discharger's approval conditions.
- Investigate reports of illegal or unusual discharges in Council's sewerage system and take appropriate action in accordance with Council's Liquid Trade Waste Policy and other relevant legislation.

About You
To be successful in the position, you will have:
- Trade qualification, licensed Plumber
- Current Class C Drivers Licence
- Proof of right to work in Australia e.g. Australian permanent residency, Citizenship or VISA
- Sound working knowledge of the Plumbing Code of Australia, the AS3500 standards and their application to liquid trade waste pre-treatment equipment and backflow prevention requirements
- High level of public liaison and communication skills including ability to build rapport with trade waste customers.
Our ideal candidate will possess good knowledge of the function of water and sewerage reticulation and treatment systems as well as potential trade waste impacts on the environment and treatment systems
