About the role
The City of Sydney is looking for a Service Liaison Officer to join the Resource Recovery team to build productive partnerships with residential buildings and their communities to facilitate understanding and take-up of our waste and recycling services to:
- Align 95% or more of domestic waste services to the City's domestic waste charges
- Reduce waste generation per capita by 15% by 2030;
- Divert 90% of residential waste (35% as source separated recycling) away from landfill by 2050.
The Service Liaison Officer will be responsible for conducting compliance tasks and supporting education in the field, providing practical solutions to help residents with their waste and recycling responsibilities and ensuring residential properties are operationalised to support council diversion targets.
The Service Liaison Officer role includes a high level of autonomy and independent work, including site visits and fieldwork five days a week. The officer also has access to the council pool vehicle fleet and collaborates with various internal stakeholders.
The successful candidate will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in sustainability, environmental management or related field and/or extensive demonstrated relevant knowledge and experience.
- Well-developed data management skills, oral and written communication, and ability to liaise, negotiate and effectively resolve conflicts and reconcile competing interests.
- Solid understanding of the needs and strategies required to address waste management issues in the community and proven practical problem-solving and decision-making ability.
- Demonstrated experience at working with and fostering relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders to deliver mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Excellent customer service skills and strength of character to deal effectively with difficult customers.
- A current NSW Drivers License

This role has the option of a rostered day off each month, known as a 19-day month.
