About the role
These are Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander targeted positions which is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14(d) of the Anti- Discrimination Act 1977.
The City of Sydney is looking for up to 2 motivated and enthusiastic Events Interns to join our Major Events and Festivals team. This is an entry-level opportunity to gain hands-on experience working alongside industry professionals in the planning and delivery of some of Sydney’s most iconic events, includingSydney ChristmasandSydney New Year’s Eve.
The internship runs from Monday 19 October 2026 until Friday 8 January 2027, working up to Christmas Eve, and between 27 December and 1 January inclusive. You won’t work on Christmas Day or Boxing Day. The exact start date and work arrangements will be discussed and agreed as part of the selection process.
This role is ideal for someone looking to build a career in events, gain practical experience, and work behind the scenes on some of Sydney’s most high-profile cultural celebrations.
As the Events Intern, you will:
- Support the Major Events and Festivals team with effective project and administrative support as directed.
- Assist with the set-up, operation and pack-down of production, operations and logistics requirements for identified events under direction of the relevant coordinators and/or managers.
- Assist with any required event administration tasks including preparing meeting minutes, agendas and action lists, and updating project critical path documentation.
- Support and assist with other programming, production, or business operations-related duties as directed/required.
- The position will have the opportunity to work on event sites during the delivery of the events if required.
We're looking for someone with:
- An interest in major events and festivals within a local government setting.
- Ability to meet deadlines and to balance competing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to be proactive, flexible and reliable.
- Good written and oral communication skills, combined with proven ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Able to work some evenings and weekends where required.
