About the Role
Join our team and help protect, promote, and improve the environment and public health and safety of our community. In this role, you will provide professional advice, deliver education, and support compliance across a wide range of environmental and public health matters.
You will work collaboratively with other Council divisions and state agencies to achieve positive outcomes while administering and enforcing relevant legislation, regulations, and Council policies.
The main duties of this position include:
- Assess and determine applications for approval to operate existing sewage management facilities.
- Inspection and assessment of sewage management facilities on domestic and commercial premises.
- Investigation and enforcement activities for compliance with relevant environmental legislation such as the Protection of the Environment Operations Act and Regulations, e.g. for air, noise, water pollution and waste dumping matters.

The advertised salary is based on the grade of the position, comprising of 4 steps within the range shown. The starting salary is at Step 1 within the grade. Progression through the salary steps shall be based upon the achievement of performance objectives relating to the position.
This is a grade range position, therefore in accordance with qualifications, accreditation, experience and demonstrated skills, the prospective employee will be assessed as either Grade 9, 10 or 11.
- Grade 9 - $66,023 - $76,858 gross p.a. (pro rata) plus 12% Super
- Grade 10 - $72,918 - $83,759 gross p.a. (pro rata) plus 12% Super
- Grade 11 - $79,820 - $90,655 gross p.a. (pro rata) plus 12% Super
About You
Progression from a Grade 9 to a Grade 11 Environmental Health Officer position is subject to competencies being met and increased responsibilities and complexity of tasks being undertaken or managed. See EHO Broad Banding Framework attached to the job description.
Grade 9
- Substantially completed tertiary degree qualification in Applied Science majoring in Environmental Health or equivalent
Grade 10
- Tertiary degree qualifications in Applied Science Majoring in Environmental Health or equivalent.
- Eligible to become a member of Environmental Health Australia or equivalent professional association.
Grade 11
- Tertiary degree qualifications in Applied Science Majoring in Environmental Health or equivalent and practicing/mentoring in a specialised area.
All Grades
- Current Class C Drivers Licence
- Current NSW Work Cover Construction Induction Card
- Proof of Australian working rights
