COUNCIL RANGER - CASUAL

What we are looking for We are looking for a Casual Council Ranger to join the team to provide a high-quality service in the enforcement of legislation, primarily relating to companion animals, environment and parking. This is an exciting opportunity to work with an ever-changing dynamic team within the Mid-Western Regional Council. The salary range being offered for this casual position is $44.60- $50.21 gross per hour (which includes 25% casual loading) plus superannuation (dependent on skills, qualifications and experience).
Key Accountabilities - To provide quality customer service through clear and accurate advice to members of the public and Council’s staff via face-to-face discussions, on the telephone and via general written correspondence.
- Follow up and investigate reports of alleged breaches of legislation relating to companion animals, overgrown blocks, illegal parking and other environmental or public safety issues as directed.
- Follow up and investigate reports of unattended articles, including abandoned vehicles, unapproved signage on road reserves, shopping trolleys and other unattended items as identified by members of the public or Council staff.
- Undertake a variety of Council Ranger activities, including patrols of off-lead parks and Council parks to ensure compliance with the Companion Animals Act, parking patrols to ensure compliance with timed parking and restricted parking, monitoring obstacles on footpaths (including footpath dining) and the placement of A-frames and goods for sale to ensure compliance with Business Use of Footpath policy.
- To enforce the provisions of the Companion Animals Act 1998, Public Spaces (Unattended Property) Act 2021, Roads Act 1993, Local Government Act 1993 and Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 and associated Regulations.
- Follow up and act upon other areas of Council’s Compliance and enforcement as directed by the Compliance Coordinator.
- Cleaning of the pound and feeding of animals on weekdays and ‘on call’ on weekends and public holidays as required.
- Participate in annual and short-term planning of work activities and projects aligned with the Council’s Operational and Delivery Plan.
