About the Role
Are you passionate about protecting and managing our stunning coastline and estuaries? Shoalhaven City Council is seeking a motivated and technically skilled Coast & Estuaries Officer to join our Coastal Management Unit. This is your opportunity to make a real impact on the future of our coastal environment.
Reporting directly to the Lead - Coastal Management, this position is responsible for delivering key elements of the Shoalhaven coastal management program. You will:
- Work collaboratively within a team to meet project milestones and deadlines in line with the NSW Coastal Management Act 2016
- Project manage Coast & Estuary Grants and other initiatives, including environmental assessments, licensing, and contractor oversight
- Prepare and submit grant applications and ensure compliance with reporting requirements
- Lead technical projects involving investigations, design, specifications, and cost estimation for coastal infrastructure and environmental works
- Review and enhance the quality and efficiency of coastal data and information systems
- Provide technical advice on coastal planning and land use development proposals
- Contribute to strategic planning for estuarine and coastal areas through management and asset programs
This is a grade range position, therefore in accordance with qualifications, accreditation, experience and demonstrated skills, the prospective employee will be assessed as either Grade 10, 11 or 12.
Grade 10 - $91,148 - $104,698 gross p.a. plus 12% Super
Grade 11 - $99,775 - $113,318 gross p.a. plus 12% Super
Grade 12 - $105,927 - $120,707 gross p.a. plus 12% Super
About You
To be successful in the position, you will have:
Grade 10
- Completed tertiary qualifications in coastal management, environmental science, environmental/civil/structural engineering, or relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated experience (approx. 0-3 years) within a coastal management or project management environment, with working knowledge of the Local Government Act and Coastal Management Act.
Grade 11
- Completed tertiary qualifications in coastal management, environmental science, environmental/civil/structural engineering, or relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated experience (approx. 3-5 years) within a coastal management or coastal engineering environment, with intermediate knowledge of the Local Government Act and Coastal Management Act.
Grade 12 - Senior Coast & Estuaries Officer
- Completed tertiary qualifications in coastal management, environmental science, environmental/civil/structural engineering, or relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated experience (approx. 5+ years) within a coastal management or coastal engineering environment, with advanced knowledge of the Local Government Act and Coastal Management Act.
- Responsibility for developing and planning capital and operational programs, projects, and strategies.
Progression from a Grade 10 to a Grade 12 Coast & Estuaries Officer position is subject to competencies being met and increased responsibilities and complexity of tasks being undertaken or managed.
