Your new role
The City is seeking a motivated, experienced, and forward-thinking Senior Planning Officer to join our team. In this key role, you will be responsible for leading, delivering positive planning outcomes and drive new initiatives within our Statutory Planning team.
This is an exciting and diverse role in which you will be able to gain planning experience in an innovative and vibrant metropolitan local government.
Reporting to the Coordinator Statutory Planning / Principal Statutory Planner, you will undertake a wide variety of interesting work including:
- Provide professional advice and support on town planning and property matters.
- Process complex Development and Subdivision applications.
- Have delegation to sign-off on selected Subdivision and Development Applications.
- Prepare Development Assessment Panel (DAP) and Council reports attending Council briefing and DAP meetings as required.
- Lead, mentor and support team members, including Planning Officers and Administrative Officers.
- Lead continuous improvement within the team and seek innovation where possible.
- Represent the City at events, committees, and the State Administrative Tribunal with the support of legal representation, where relevant.
- Work collaboratively on projects with the Strategic Planning Team on a variety of town planning matters.
What you will need to succeed
- A tertiary qualification recognised as suitable for entry into the Planning Institute of Australia.
- Substantial practical experience in the provision of statutory planning services.
- A customer focused, authentic, leadership style.
- Strong commitment to innovation, and continuous improvement.
- A desire to challenge the status quo.
- Detailed knowledge of and ability to interpret legislation, planning principles and practices.
- An analytical mindset – you research topics thoroughly, develop strategies and implement solutions for complex planning matters.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to negotiate with and influence different stakeholders.
