About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and reliable Casual Building Surveyor to support Council in delivering safe, compliant and high‑quality development outcomes for our community. In this role, you will play a key part in promoting the health, welfare and wellbeing of residents by ensuring buildings and developments meet all legislative, environmental and safety standards.
As a Building Surveyor with Council, you will:
- Assist in administering relevant legislation to support a safe, well‑designed and sustainable built environment for the whole community.
- Assess Construction Certificates and Complying Development Certificates, preparing clear and accurate compliance reports.
- Conduct critical stage inspections in accordance with your level of accreditation.
- Contribute to the protection and enhancement of the natural and built environment, public safety, and local amenity in line with Council's Community Strategic Plan.
- Provide professional, customer‑focused advice to the public on development‑related enquiries.
- Manage, assess and process development applications of varying size, complexity and value.
- Carry out plumbing and drainage inspections for residential, commercial and industrial buildings.
- Develop and implement key program functions, including:
- Bushfire reports and BAL certificates
- BCA/NCC advisory services
- Provide expert technical advice on the Building Code of Australia/National Construction Code and other relevant building legislation.

This is a grade range position, therefore in accordance with qualifications, accreditation, experience and demonstrated skills, the prospective employee will be assessed as either Grade 9, 10 or 11.
Grade 9 - $56 - $65 gross per hour plus 12% Super (inclusive of 25% casual loading)
Grade 10 - $62 - $71 gross per hour plus 12% Super (inclusive of 25% casual loading)
Grade 11 - $68 - $77 gross per hour plus 12% Super (inclusive of 25% casual loading)
About You
To be successful in the position, you will have:
Grade 9
- Holds or in the process of obtaining Tertiary qualification in Building Surveying or equivalent to attain a registered Class of building surveyor - Building Inspector.
- Undertaking or completed training to achieve a registered Class of building surveyor - Building Inspector with NSW Fair Trading
Grade 10
- Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying or equivalent to attain a registered Class of building surveyor - restricted (class 1 and 10 buildings).
- Registered as a certifier to attain a registered Class of building surveyor - restricted (class 1 and 10 buildings) with NSW Fair Trading.
Grade 11
- Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying or equivalent to attain a registered Class of building surveyor - restricted (all classes of buildings) or Class of building surveyor - unrestricted.
- Registered as a certifier at Class of building surveyor - restricted (all classes of buildings) or Class of building surveyor - unrestricted with NSW Fair Trading.
All Grades
- Hold or be eligible to acquire an NSW Workcover Construction Induction card.
- Class C Driver's Licence
- Proof of Australian residency or citizenship, or authority to work in Australia (visa)
